Secure file transfer from Windows XP to Windows XP

I have a customer that needs to transfer sensitive files over the internet.  I am looking for a program that would allow secure file transfer between 2 Windows XP computers over the internet.  Does anyone know if this is possible?

All my research seems to point to needing a SFTP server.

3 approaches are recommended:

1. FILE based: you may use WINZIP, WINRAR and similar programs to compress and encrypt the data file, and send the encrypted file over network via FTP, HTTP or other protocols you preferred. the receiver needs to install the same program in order to extract the data file.

2. EMAIL based: to send the data file with a kind of specialized email program which is able to encrypt the email and its attachments to be sent, such as PGP enabled email client. the program should be installed at the receiver side, too.

3. NETWORK based: to establish a secure link between the two nodes need to communicate with each other, such as VPN. then send the file over the encrypted link with your preferred ways, such as copying via MS file and print sharing services.

of course, you may combine the 3 methods mentioned above.

hope it helps,

Note : if you are to decide between Zip and Winrar take Winrar, its file encryption is much stronger to crack than that of Zip. With strong password is impossible.
