Cisco Router 2610 installtion and set-up

I have a Cisco Router 2610 at home, and What I would like to do is to Log into the router using the console (Ethernet connection). I just want to practice some Cisco commands.
It is been very difficult to find the right software to set up the router. At cisco.com they don’t give you unless you register with them. Well, I did it. But know but account does not has enough privilege, so I do not know what to do. I'm studying for the Cisco Certification by my self. Does anybody has any idea how I can get the right software to get access into this type of router.

                 Thank You

All the documentation for Cisco products is at http://www.cisco.com/univercd, this should be one of your bookmarks if you are doing any Cisco certification.

A 2600 is considered a "Modular Access Router" so here is the link to ALL the 2600 documentation:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_mod/cis2600/index.htm

Then, here is specifically the password reset procedure, document ID 22188:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_password_recovery09186a0080094675.shtml

The console connection is not the same as the ethernet connection.   The console is a serial connection that requires a cisco console cable.  If you have that cable then connect with the serial port on your computer using hyper terminal configured for the correct serial port at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop, No parity and no flow control.  If you don't have a console cable they be bought on ebay cheap.

This will allow you to login to the router and configure the ethernet port so you can see it on the network.  If you for some reason don't know the passwords to the router let me know and I will post how to reset a 2610.

There is no GUI to configure the router.  Once you have set the ip address on the router you can telnet to the router instead of using the console cable.  But the router is still all command line interface.

There are some third party applications that assist in this with a GUI but they don't work very well.

Even the GUI that is built into the Cisco Pix's doesn't work well.  Everytime I call cisco and tell them I can't get my Pix to do I need they laugh when I tell them I used the web interface.

You Cisco certification will require you to know the command line interface inside and out to pass the test.
