Getting my hands on the "fsextend.exe" utility
Hi, I have exactly the same problem as this thread : https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21039671/Extending-NTFS-partition-results-in-size-discrepancy.html
I need to tell the Master File Table that there is more space it can use. I have used Diskpart to extend and allocate space to the existing partition. I now need to use the fsextend utility, this is where the problem is.
In order for me to get this utility from MS PSS I need to quote either a KB or Article number, there is no way around this. Unfortunately I cannot find one relating to Win2k3.
My question is, can someone post a link to an actual MS KB or article that I can quote to them in order to get this utility? Or, can I get this utility from someone on this forum?
Thanks,
Paul.

Hi Jay, I have read that article and did quote that exact number to MS, unfortunately, the article doesn't mention either Win 2003 or the fsextend utility.
Thanks for the reply.

FSExtend.exe is available from MS. not in the public area, you will have to contact them, and it should be free.

Jay, I wish I was kidding, I am also in Aus. When I ring MS PSS, I have to have a KB or article number in order to get a hotfix or utility, they are very anal about this.
dooley, I have already used Diskpart to extend the partition. Also, the hotfix mentioned is for XP and 2000, nothing for 2003.
Thanks,
Paul.

OK all, I have resolved my own problem.
With XP SP2 and Win2k3, the Diskpart utilily has a new switch, that being, extend filesystem,
therefore the command is : diskpart extend filesystem, once you have focused on the correct volume.
this took all of one second to expand my partition by 500GB.
thanks to all that posted.
