To test our spam filter.
The best will be a site I can give the email to that you know will result in a large quantity of spam.

That is a very BAD BAD idea.
There is enough spam out there, you should not willingly expose yourself to it.
As you have already implemented a spam filter, this obviously means that you have a spam problem.
So use that real world data to look how it behaves, but don't add to the problem.

Totally agree with PowerIT.  Why have a spam filter if you were not exposed to it in the first place.  If you did/do get spam and you added the filter then surely soon enough you will get spam to test if the filter works.

This link might help how to get spam

I am also sure that giving out a link/site like that would also contravene the terms and conditions associated with this website.

What stop somebody else from listing all the people he hates email addresses on such a site/page.

If you want to test your spam filter then create your own spam message and send it from an external email address. There are enough key words that are listed on various website that will trigger your spam filter. Infact think of a few body parts and you'll already trigger 99% of spam filters.

What are you trying to test anyways? Where the spam filter works? How the spam filter responds to load?

A single message is considered spam, but message flooding is often also called spam for a collective group of messages sent to your email server. And then you also get spam in a can....AKA HAM

If it does go against the terms and conditions of this website then I am sure the link would be removed.  But seeing as I got that link from a simple google search, you dont need to much brains to get that info. ;)

Sorry, I wasn't specifically targetting your link. I was generalizing in response to the question. And I wholeheartedly agree with the last part of your post.

No problem.  If I innocently broke a site rule then I apologise and thank you for pointing it out :D

It's easy to receive SPAM.  The best way is to:

1) Post your email address on newsgroups, on web sites, and any place else where it can be "harvested" by SPAMMERS.

2) Subscribe to anything "free", newsletters, etc.

3) Get some SPAM from another email account you might have and find the removal email address.  Send "please remove me..." with the return address being the one you want to receive SPAM from.  (This is VERY effective.)

4) Register some domain names with your email address as the contact email.

I, like you, had a need to test an anti-SPAM product and did the above things.  Within a week the account was getting 50-100 SPAMS/day.

The problem you will find in doing this - once you end your test and disable that email address on your mail server, those spammers will continue to send spam for a long, long time.  Add that much more burden to your server and Internet traffic in general.

They don't seem to pay much attention to non-delivery messages.  We have employees that left 4 years ago who are still receiving messages.  Their accounts were deleted from the mail server, but the logs still show the user unknown entries.

NO SCARE!

Buy for yourself a domain name (try: hooplazoopla.com) cost: 10$
Buy space from webhosting company for 1 month. cost: 10$

Configue your webhosting's dns server to referens all mail trafic to your test system.

AND YOUR ARE DONE

Now you can safely submit your email anywhere. (see jhance)

BETTER: Register on ads at sex, hackers and crackers sites. You will be given INSTANTLY houndreds of spam mails.
BETTER: As you go to sex and crackers sites etc. let them infect couple of times(!) one of your test machines. The viruses will do the hard work on submitting your email to the world.
BETTER: Download and open cracks. WARNING: You should not use them to violate licences. Just download and install. This is a sure and fast way.

WARNING:
Do not use fake domain on real systems because if your antivirus will miss one junk you will be in deep troubles.
Do not use fake mailbox on your real domain. Because spam machines will open dictionary attack on your real domain.

The safest is test domain with test system.
