Automatic Updates

Hi Guys,

I am currently running:

Server 2003 Enterprise
Windows 2000 and Windows XP Clients

I was wondering if there was a simple and easy way to download windows and office updates so that every machine receives the updates when they boot up.  If i cannot find a solution, I am facing having to walk round every machine, download microsoft update and then set the auto updates on every client..

You could setup and configure WSUS for this job instead of having each machine downlad the updates individually - you can set a predifined time for the updates to be downloaded and installed.

Have a look at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/updateservices/default.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/updateservices/downloads/WSUS.mspx

Cheers,
Kris

cvanhoudt,

we run 140 domains alone using the old SUS setup and its unreal, we are migrating to WSUS as we speak and its been unreal, we sit in the office and say  allow allow   disallow etc to updates and they etc distributed overnight to central servers and to clients inhouse
