Need agent in mailin database that returns a message with an upgrade my mail file button.......

I want users to be able to email a mailin db and get a msg in return that wil lhave a upgrade my mail file button. Has anyone got an agent that does something this, or returns a message with a button to perform the function that I can modify to use as an "upgrade my mail file" button?

try this

1 in an agent (before/after new mail) create a backend document to be sent back to the sender of the newly received email.
2 include a button in the autoreply doc by
  -using stored form or
  -using lookup a rictext field with your button from lookup documents

hope this helps

I'm sorry, why would you want them to update their mail file when you can do this on the server?  What are we updating to and from?

Thank You for your suggestions cezarF. I actually decided to go with an action menu agent that will get the job done. Marilyng; we want to be able to upgrade specific groups of users and want them to be able upgrade the design of their mail file after they have performed the client upgrade. Rather than wait for all users to complete the upgrade (5k + University faculty and staff users in an "open" environment). Mgment wanted something quick and our original thought was to create a mailin db that would respond with the upgrade design command in a button. But, we decided to add the code as an agent and add it to the actions menu which management was very happy with. Thanks all!

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Hmm, still confused, what version are you upgrading to that doesn't support the automatic upgrade pushed out to users via the administrator?

We have R5.x.x versions Marilyng. We want to go to R6.5.5. Not only that, but we have many different desktops here. Some people are running NT still. Some people are even running Win98. As well as MACs. So, this is not a "vanilla" upgrade by any means. We tried InstallPump but that didn't work very well with the various versions of Windows here. So, we went with an internal solution. R5 doesn't support smart upgrade.

Ah, yes, of course.  That is problematic.  Even the MAC's are problematic.  I ended up with the R5 writing an update script that I put in the mail file, so when we changed their mail file to the upgradetemplate, on open it would run the rest of the configuration and then sent an email to an administration db, so we could track who need their mail template changed.  Once we got the email, we changed the mail template to the real one that we needed to use.

Mac Installs are problematic if you have them running on a network, and I don't recall finding any automation other than to push out a set of vanilla install files so that all you had to do was run the rest of the upgrade and then the mail file agent would run and update the workspace.  There was a problem with the OSX and having to move the Notes Preferences file to an open folder, and then you need to physically set the permissions on the NOtes and Data folders to include the users.

Let me know if you need any other assistance,

Marilyng;

    We started with Installpump, but it was unable to work with so many different O/S's and other desktop differences. We also have Crackberries, so the desktop manager needs to be shut down prior to upgrade. All of our MAC users are already on 6.5.4, (did that the old school way: sneakernet as there aren't that many of them). We will upgrade the MACs to 6.5.5 using disks. So, we don't have to worry about them. The MSI solution we have now, seems to be working pretty well. The agent we created to do the load convert, worked flawessly during a run through meeting yesterday. And once the mail file has been converted, the agent is deleted from the actions menu too! Sweet. Thanks all for your able assistance!
