cisco router 2621 - still good or not?

Hi,

there was a Cisco 2621 in my office before I came to this company.

today, I connected from laptop com1 to the router console, and the information posted on HyperTerminal are some weird charters that I could understand. like:

JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJnJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ

when the booting stops, I can not type any thing on the HT window.

is this router dead? or is it fixable?

thanks a lot.

were you using a cisco console cable or just a serial cable.  did you have the come port set to 9600, 8, 1 and none.

you must use a cisco console cable and have the com port configured with the above settings

yes, I did them all.

when I test another router, I can see the information in HT, but not working with 2621

Is any of the output readable? If not, it could be that someone changed the router's console port settings to something other than 9600, N, 8, 1.

If so, there's a jumper that can be used to reset console settings:

"When the shunt is moved to pins 1-2, the console is reset to 9600 baud on the next power cycle. "

I found this problem when the bootup was set to 1 speed, and the startup-config was set to another, without going and fiddling with the hardware, i'd check other speeds on your com port, starting with 115200 and working your way down.
