Backup Exec v10 fails on verify ever since new Sony AIT4 has been installed
My company has been using the Sony AIT4 Stor Station for about a year when one day one of our tapes would not eject due to a faulty entry door. Sony sent a replacement and we had trouble getting the software to detect the device but finally succeeded. Then we went through all the steps to get it ready for the 1st backup and everything seemed ok. Failed on the verify from there on...contacted Veritas(Symantec) and they were of no help. We installed current SP for Veritas and sent in the diagnostics to Veritas and they concluded it was either the device or the media(which was practically new). After reinstalling drivers and firmware and having no success, Sony sent another Stor Station . Second device was detected immediately so I assumed that the problem was solved. Full backup succeded but then all the differentials have failed since then. We rebuilt the differential job and even tried new Sony AIT4 tapes. I have cleaned the device but still no success...this is extremely urgent and do appreciate all your help! Again this began when the new replacement devices were installed. They are the exact same model and this server is running 2003 standard edition. This is s SCSI device.

Have you tried restoring data and opening those restored files to check if they are good? Have you checked the logs to see which files don't verify?

I have been able to restore and the logs ALWAYS show the failure at different files. Very inconsistent. I know that the restore has worked before after the Verify failure but it worries me that it "fails" on Verify EVERY night. The error on the "Verify Failed" reads as follows: Final error: 0xe00084cd - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

Is there also some indication of a filename before the verify errors out? Anyway, there seems to be something wrong with the device, I'd also get sony to repair or replace it.

Well the device has been replaced twice. Although the units are refurbished it seem hard to believe that both units are faulty. I did think that was the issue 1st hand but now dont. The filename as well as server changes every night. So I am confused to what the cause is. Thank you for responding by the way!
