Unchecked Automatically grow transaction log file of SQL Server 2000

Hi Experts,

I am using SQL Server 2000, I want uncheck "Automatically grow file" of transaction log file in dialog box of property Database

If do so, what's matter will happen? Is that affect my server?

If you uncheck this, then once the the transaction log reaches the maximum value specified, then you wont be able to do any operations (except the select operation). The transaction log will keep track of all the activities in the database.

Contd..

Once the log is full, the server hangs, and will give you message like 'Transaction log is full' . If you are able to truncate the Log effectively, then you can uncheck it.

ok, if I restrict file growth is 100MB,  is that affect my server?

If I do so, when transaction log reaches maximum value of restrict grow file, is my server hanged?

Yes, that's what i have mentioed earlier , how fast it will reach 100MB, again will depend on how often you send the requests other than SELECT

Did you go thru the link I've send you earlier ?
For a production system, you must consider autogrow to be merely a contingency for unexpected growth. In case of a dev database, you can restrict them..
Also if you set the recovery model to simple, then also you can limit the flog file grow size
