    Assisted Solution

    Yes, it seems likely that some malware is infecting your system.

    Here is what I suggest:

    Download HijackThis from and install and run it.
    Copy-and-paste the resulting log to that same web site (not here)
    Click on "Analyze" and then at the bottom of the next page, click on "Save Analysis"
    Finally, post a link to the final saved analyzed page.

    That should help narrow down the problem a bit.

    you may not be able to do it on the infected machine, but downlaod the windows defender, ad-aware, and spy bot search and destroy. (3 total)

    boot into safe mode, install these tools and run them.

    also look into AVG antivirus, this is a less-mainstream utility, and lots of spyware and viruses are not guarding against this one, like they would against McAffee and norton.

    Good Luck,

    Accepted Solution

    What you described reminded me of Blackworm or Blackmal.E@mm that closes windows whose title contains any of the following strings:

    * SCAN
    * VIRUS
    * MCAFEE
    * NORTON
    * FIX

    If it is blackmal worm, then there should be one entry of it in hijackthis log, as r-k already suggested.

    Removal Tool:

    Save the file to a convenient location, such as your Windows desktop.
    Double-click "Antinyxem-EN.exe" to start the removal tool.

    The program will scan all running processes, and then you will be able to click the Scan button.
    Click Scan to begin the tool, and then allow it to run.

    Afterwards run Panda's ActiveScan for good measure:

    Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    A new window will the Check Now button
    Enter your Country
    Enter your State/Province
    Enter your e-mail address and click send
    Select either Home User or Company
    Click the big Scan Now button
    If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
    When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report.

    You should be able to access the removal tool unless your hosts file also blocked security and antivirus sites.
    Removal Tool:

    Check your hosts file:
    Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts
    Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts

    delete any antivirus/security sites listed beneath this line --> Localhost

    Can we have a look at your hijackthis log please? as r-k already suggested.
