Is there any generic utility that I can use to test the speed of a netwoek, especially peer to peer. I would like to put a file on one system and then, using some test util, copy that or other files to the test system in order to see what the real throughput is to determine a bad network card or bad port on a switch?<br />

By generic I mean it is not network card specific.<br />

Throughput test

The Windows operating systems have distinct methodologies for designing and implementing networks, and have specific systems to accomplish various networking processes, such as Exchange for email, Sharepoint for shared files and programs, and IIS for delivery of web pages. Microsoft also produces server technologies for networked database use, security and virtualization.
