I'm afraid this is device specific. Do the instructions say anything about the telnet commands to use? Are you supposed to use a PostScript command?

What model and make of printer do you have?

If the printer has an IP address, it may have a built-in web page. Type its address into your internet browser, and see if you get any response. If you do, you should be able to change the name there.

On the other hand, I've never seen an installer that required me to change the printer's name. With or without telnet.

Actually, many printers can be accessed by telnet. just open a command window and type:

> telnet #.#.#.#

where #.#.#.# is the IP address of the printer. It should respond with a menu of options that you can choose from. If it asks for a password try a blank password first.
