Microsoft Access can't find the wizard, or there is an incorrect setting in the windows registry.

I have a user that is on a windows XP pro Sp 1 machine using access 97. MS office 97 and Ms office 2000 ( no access or front page installed ) on the machine. When trying to import an excel sheet into the database, I get an error saying: "microsoft access can't find the wizard, or there is an incorrect setting in the windows registry. Rerun microsoft acces or miscrosft office setup to reinstall the wizards. If the missing wizard is not a microsoft access wizard, reinstall it using the add-in manager."

I have uninstalled both aps variou stime and have looked at MS KB information and was unable to correc thtis problem. Now After reinstalling access for the 5th time I tried to import an excel sheet but I would not select execel as a file type in my drop down list. Please help.

Ok I kinda Follow your advice and Microsoft. I uninstalled all the items listed in this doc http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q163997/ and then was able to have the excel option avaliable but because I removed the SQLSRV32.DLL from system 32 I had to find another one and put it back in place. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Problem!!! Seems that if the user is part of the User Group they will not be allow to import the excel files... I will check is this is the same case with text files. Is there any docs of noted issued with users being part of the User group as oppose to being on the power users group?

Are you using ULS? Anyway, I don't see how this can affect things. Have you removed any rights from the Users group at all?

No I have not. No Worries, I realized that as user they are not allow to Modify or Write information to the Office Folder. Seems that if you dont have this ability you can not import files... any type.. not just excel. Weird but it seems to work. Thanks again Harfang...
