Quickbooks won't load on Windows XP Media Center Edition

I have a client with a Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP MCE. She's trying to run Quickbooks Pro and it loads for a brief moment and then goes away.

Now typically I'd kill pop-up blockers, anti-virus, anti-spam, etc., yeah, none of that worked. Booted into Safe Mode, didn't work. Ran as Administrator (the user account is an admin anyway), didn't work. Booted into Safe Mode w/Network Support just for the heck of it, didn't work.

I can kill every process but the core system processes (explorer, winlogon, sms, etc) and still nothing.

There is a logging capability with most installers (Installshield, Wise, etc.).  See if there is a log created by the installer.  You'll have to hunt and peck to find it.  Or check the installer's or Quicken's web site (the installer usually shows its name on one or all screens) and see if there's a command line switch to throw that creates a log.

It could be that the installer is checking the OS and not finding MCE on its internal list of approved OSes.  And since MCE is relatively new, the install system may not be aware of it and just leaves a message in the log.

have you tried to install to another computer --does it work?
try pulling the software to the desktop and load from there.

Windows media is a TV-VCR-gaming-video-entertainment system, meant for those uses.
IT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR BUSINESS APPLICATIONS !!!

QB is a full fledged business application.  Tell her to run it on a BUSINESS computer, say running windows XP.

Then it will work flawlessly ... but NOT on MEDIA CENTER -- it is a home entertainment clone/duplicate OS.
