what is the different in communication between a Socket and a URL?

Good morning objects.

ya see what i though was socket is an endpoint for a communication between 2 computers.  It is also an object that corresponds to a network connection and a URL is just a pointer to a resource on WWW.

I was just trying to convenice myself that their is more to a Socket/URL...

Yes i know a socket needs a host which is idenified by IP & port, but as i said to objects i though their was more to it...
