Navigating to a related record

I am new to Filemaker and databases in general. I have 2 databses set up and they have relational fields. The contact info from database 1 auto copies to the apprpriate fields in database 2. I am trying to insert a button on a record page in databse 1 that opens database 2 to the related record. I have been able to do open the second database but cannot figure out how to open to the right record. Any help would be great.

use the comma nd
"goto related record"; then in its options:
- specify which table occurence to go,
- wheter you just want to browse to the desired related record or browse to the desired record while reducing the found set of related records to only the related record(s); especially useful if you need to do something on all related records, not just read them.
- display only the related records of the current record, or the related records of all records of the current found set; this in case you'd like to do something at once on the related recors of say 10 reocrds in the master table.
in you case, you shoud use:

goto related record/match only related records/only related records of the current record.

But it is useful at your stage to try all options as this is a command is useful very often.

Thanks,

I thought this was it, "goto related record" , but it still would not work. I realized that I had a relationship in the tables that would not let it work. Now that it is working, I cannot go back to the original record. I have the relationship set up and am using "goto related record". Any additional info would be helpful.

Thanks

you can go back using "goto related record", but using the table occurence name where you come from instead.
the easiest if probably to put the 1st command (the one to go to the related records(s) in a script, pause then window/refresh. this is ok if you just want to see the related record and come back. another trick is to open the related record in new window: this way when you close it, the "mother" window is still here.

Actually the reason it was not working was because of the way I had a window behaviour set in "goto related record". All is well now. Thanks very much for the tips.
