mail does not reach mailbox

...it happened a week ago from one of our mail server in the region.  take note that both servers are in the same domain.  when we try to send a message from mailserver1 [with an option trace entire path] to mailserver2,,,mail router will just inform that it reaches mailserver2, but not the person's mailbox.  sending message using internet address [with name@domain.org]...assures delivery of mail from mailserver1 to mailserver2,,,but not when selecting name from NAB [i.e. "fname lname/DOMAIN"].

...can you please guide me through possible cause and solution to this problem.

Hi marjun_mjr,
Check ACL of NAB, it must contain the name of the server that routes mail (or LocalDomainServers group, of course the server must be inside).

Hope this helps,
Marko

marjun_mjr,
same as above, the person's mail file's ACL must have server listed as type = "Server"; Access = "Manager" (with option to delete docs).

You want it to be able to push design changes (Designer al least), ACL changes (if consistent across all replicas is selected - Manager at least), and so on...

Hope this helps,
Marko

...thats the first thing i did marko, and everything is there in the ACL.  also, if you are in mailserver2...sending message is not a problem...its only recieving [not unless you use the internet address name@domain.org].

Check the router/smtp settings how you wish to route the mail

BTW, Are these two servers in same NNN  or domain ?

Is the person doc listed in the NAB? on both servers?  Is there an error message in either server log, probably serverB, about a mail delivery failure?

...hemanth,,,i have already checked router/smtp and everything is the same as our other mail servers and both servers are in the same domain.

...marilyng,,,yes person doc are listed in NAB on both servers...no error message found in the server log about delivery failure.

...when sending a test mail from mailserver1 to mailserver2, it reaches mailserver2 but mail does not deliver to the mailbox...looking at the console in mailserver2  it shows:

05/09/2006 11:09:12 AM SMTP Server: mailserver1.domain.org <10.148.xx.xx> connected
05/09/2006 11:09:17 AM SMTP Server: Message 00324A24 <MessageID: <0FBBD92A53.76DFBA7F-0N42257169.0031FF10-42257169 003248F@domain.org>> received
05/09/2006 11:09:19 AM SMTP Server: mailserver1.domain.org <10.148.xx.xx> disconnected. 1 message[s] received
05/09/2006 11:09:25 AM Router: Transferring mail to hubserver/domain via Notes
05/09/2006 11:09:27 AM Router: Transferred  1 messages to hubserver/domain via Notes
05/09/2006 11:09:28 AM Router: Message 002A878E transfered to hubserver/domain for testmail/domain%domain@domain.org

...on the last entry, it looks odds since it supposed to be "...transfered to hubserver/domain for testmail/domain" only and not with "...testmail/domain%domain@domain.org".

...by putting delivery option to "trace entire path"...mail routers will tell you that it reaches mailserver2...and no other trace of reaching user mailbox.

Looks like the router is not able to find the user in the address book, hence it is converting to the format specified in global domain document.

So do they use different NAB on both the servers ?

If not, then check these settings (for both the servers)

In default configuration document, look into SMTP basics tab

SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain:      Disabled
SMTP allowed within the local internet domain:      Disabled
Servers within the local Notes domain are reachable via SMTP over TCPIP:      Always

Under mime..outbound tab

Lookup Internet address for all Notes addresses when Internet address is not defined in document:      Disabled

...thanks hermanth!!! mailserver1 has "SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain:     Enabled" and after disabling that...everything works.

...thanks also to marilyng and mbonaci for giving me ideas on where to look at on troubleshooting the problem.
