RAID 5

As before, I only used 3 hard drive to build RAID 5 model for server running. Everybody also know if one of hard drive is failure, we should replace a new one to rebuild it as normal.

Today,  I suddenly have one question... we can use more than 3 hard drive for RAID 5, but if two of hard drive are failure ????

(Failure)     RAID 5                       (Failure)           RAID 5
Hard drive    Status                        Hard drive         Status
                          ----------------------------------        --------------------------------

RAID 5 (3 hd)          1 of 3        Normal running               2 of 3             Failure
RAID 5 (4 hd)          1 of 4        Normal running               2 of 4             ???
RAID 5 (5 hd)          1 of 5        Normal running               2 of 5             ???

Can tell me more please ? Thanks !

If two drivers fail in a Raid 5 configuration, all data on the Raid is lost.
I would recommend some sort of monitor software that will generate notices that a single drive has failed so that you can swap it out before a 2nd drive would fail.

Even we have 3, 4 or 8 hard drives, we only accept one of hard drives is failure under RAID 5 before rebuild, rite ? If true, why we get RAID 5 not RAID 1 ? What's the benefit for RAID 5 differ with RAID 1 ?

Thanks !

RAID 5 is faster, it makes 1 write across multiple dirves
RAID 1 is constantly making 2 writes

Also the system does not need to be takien off line to recover.
The same senario of two disk failure would yield the same results in a RAID 1
