The diagnostic tools from the manufacturer are usually the best.  You will find them included in the Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Prepare for your VMware VCP6-DCV exam.

Josh Coen and Jason Langer have prepared the latest edition of VCP study guide. Both authors have been working in the IT field for more than a decade, and both hold VMware certifications. This 163-page guide covers all 10 of the exam blueprint sections.

Samsung tools are included on UBCD recommended by Callandor.  Lots of other handy utilities on it also.

While the Ultimate Boot CD is a very good resource that can handle hard drives from almost all manufacturers, if you wanted just the Samsung diagnostic utility, here it is:

all the tools are listed, but maybe here some more :  http://www.disk-utility.com/hard-disk-low-level-format.html

be aware that a really good test needs to write on the disk, so it WILL destroy the data.
One which does NOT destroy the data, is spinrite :  http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

You can use knoppix which is a Linux Self Contained Bootable CD that will run tests and benchmark items like Hard drives, RAM and Mobo.  You can find it at http://www.knoppix.net/get.php.
