Active Directory rebuidling indices

We just had a power outage.  When my Windows Server 2003 came backup it is giving me the message "Active Directory Rebuilding Indices - Please Wait"  This message has been displayed over an hour now.  Normally by server starts backup and everything is fine.  I have already rebooted and still get the same error message.

How can I get beyond that message to get my server back up!
