Mail configuration Outlook Express vs Outlook

My internet provider says that I can only use Outlook express and outlook cannot be used.  This doesn't make any sense to me.  Is there some difference on the mail configeration between the two applications?  I would think that if OE could be configured, then Outlook could as well.

it doesnt make sense.  most likely your ISP is using POP3 access... and both outlook and express are able to retreive mail using POP3

i have encountered so many idiots for tech support at ISPs.  i would try outlook.

I was thinking that the set up page for outlook was different than OE?

Basically it's the same info that you use to configure both. As hex said, wont hurt to try....

Very likely, your ISP doesn't want to have to support all the different versions of Outlook (97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003) in addition to supporting Outlook Express (which for most users will be at version 6, with a few at version 5);  however, if they are providing you with POP and SMTP settings, along with a user ID and password, you should be able to configure Outlook as your email client just as easily as Outlook Express.  Both work as POP clients, although with Outlook, you do want to make sure it's properly patched, as Outlook 2002 (XP) and 2003 both had some problems when working as POP clients that were corrected through patches.

Very interesting.  What's the best way to get the latest patches?

You could visit www.microsoft.com and look at the relevent product areas for new patches. You can also type a phrase like office 2003 service pack in google to get related links. Any way, how did it go?
