I need a PRINTER DRIVER or SDK that I can use to generate hi-res JPEGS or TIFFS

I'm looking for a solution that I can install as a printer driver which would output a HI-RES JPEG (300dpi?) instead of printing to a printer.  I intend to use this in applications like photoshop in order to generate jpegs which would be automatically stored in a 'hot folder' which my minilab with print from.

Any ideas?

It would also be nice that I could automatically invoke a vb6 program in order to create a descriptive text document (like physical size of print selected - remember that photolabs do 8x10s not 8.5x11s - and the quantity) - or I can read a header from the original generated document.

If you're wanting to do hi-res printouts, you might want to consider using a lossless image format such as PNG or TIFF, unless your original images are JPEG anyway.

Either way, how about one of these programs:

I haven't used any of them, but they claim to print to a number of different formats, BMP, TIFF and JPG included.

For the descriptive text editor part, you'll probably need to find someone to write the application for you.  You might be able to put a script together that does it, extracting information from the image headers (exif headers, if you use JPG) , then automatically writing it to a text file in the desired format.

Thank you - that's just what I needed.
