How to set up a static ip address

How do I set up a static ip address (isssued by an ISP) for a computer that is networked through a switch (Linksys EZX555W). Other computers link to the Internet/network through what I think is a wireless router (IPAQ connector P7 CP 2W). Will I need to get a router to set up the computer that is curently linked through a switch? All computers are running Windows XP.

Hope this is clear--any help you can give me will be appreciated.

you can set your network connection properties on your pc to a static ip addr, if you're the only pc on the switch then moving to a wireles adapter (usb) would be better than buying another router, you would then be able to set the router to provide a static ip addr to your mac addr.

ex: isp gives ip addr to router which acts as dhcp svr giving out ip addr's to all pc's, wireless & connected to switches.

Just to clarify: modem --->IPAQ connection point CP-2W----> switch (Linksys EZX555W)--->computer requiring static ip (as issued by ISP).

What is static mapping? How do I set up the static IP in the router?

Thanks--

each router is different bu similar as to where & how-to setup a static ip addr, you should look for that under your dhcp settings or mac addr filtering section, best to check your manual but if you don't have one - download it from the manufacturer's website

Friartuck: I didn't find any manual online for a Compaq Ipaq CP-2W. This is one of the reasons I need help!

How do I configure the router with a static ip?

Further, how do I configure the router so that other computers on the network still have Internet access?

Can anyone give me a run through on how to set up a static IP address on a router in terms that I can then extrapolate for the Ipaq?

--reckon, who's running out of time.

Thanks, FriarTuk. I feel like a jerk, because I searched on Google and on the hp site and came up with nothing. The instructions seem pretty straight forward, so I think I can do this.
