I have exchange server 2003 that was running IMF V1. I downloaded SP2 and tried to install but was told that IMF V1 needed to be removed before installation. I removed IMF V1 from Add/Remove Programs and attempted SP2 setup again, I am now unable to install SP2 as I receive a message indicating that I must have Exchange 2003 installed before I can apply the service pack. The installation path box does not contain the path to the Exchange installation and I cannot browse to it, its as if the registry key that contains the location of the Exchnage installation doesn't exist. I now have a server that doesn't have any spam filtering at all, I have also tried to install SP1 but am unable to do this either for exactly the same reasons. Please help!

When you have installed SP1 you used some other name to login and install. Now you are using some other nam eso please first install IMF 1 and then uninstall from your login.

Now try installing SP2.

Thanks for the info. I have just tried to install IMF V1 again, this has gone through OK. I then tried to re-launch the SP2 setup again and this time it doesn't detect IMF V1, it just keeps saying that Exchange is not installed. The only thing I could see in the Petri article that my help was the bit about creating the active directory container maybe I need to try that.

Please check all the services of exchange whether they are started.

yes, they are all started apart from IMAP4. The interesting thing about all this is that when I tried to install SP2 for the first time, the installer realised that exchange and IMF were present, this only went wrong when IMF was un-installed, its like it has removed something that it shouldn't have! Interestingly, when trying to install the service pack now, the window does display the current version number of Exchange (6.5) just not the install path

Have you rebooted the server after uninstalling IMF v1.If not then first restart it and then try to install sp2.
