Oracle Database Shared mode Dedicated mode differance

I was wondering what are the main differeance between Shared mode and dedicated mode,My main question is ,In the whole installation of oracle in the world how much %  will be in the dedicated mode , and Most of the big Data centeres are using which mode in this ..

1 Solution
The main difference is in dedicated mode each user gets there own server processes to handle their requests. In shared mode many users share a server processes. A server processes submits your sql statements and returns the results to you. As long as their is enough shared processes go to around you probably wont notice a difference between having your own and sharing.

However there are some drawbacks. shared mode only works well when you have pauses in your app and your transactions are short. So in DSS and datawarehouess shared mode is out.

As far as % it depends in the app and server. If the OLTP server is small and there many users doing short transactions  shared mode is probably the way to go.
