tape not in catalog

How do i restore files from a tape that is not in the catalog ? I just want to put the tape in the drive and restore a file that I know is there. Veritas brings up all the new catalog jobs but doesnt tell me what the tape in thte tape drive is .

This sounds simple to do but I am pulling hairs ..... Again I do not know what the date on the tape is... i know its good and my files are on there... i just need to read the tape and select my gfiles....whyd od they make things so hard ???

Thanks  Frustrated

you need to recatalog the tape.. i don't currently have veritas installed, but
its there.. you may need to load the tape as new media (in the software)
or it may be called "Inventory (the new tape)" then cataloge it.

Put the tape in the tape drive.  Now go to the top menu, and find the choice --

Catalog tape.  Choose that one, and give it time, and it will add that tape to your catalog.

You might have to choose "refresh tape catalog" or something like that to get it to work.
