Hello.  I just received help from this forum regarding displaying an area of a page based on radio-button selection.  Although I got the regions to display correctly, I have now run into another problem.

The contingent regions have form fields.  One has a text form field that is converted to "cint" on the 2nd page of the form for calculation.  Also, it has 3 radio button selections... each with numeric value, and they are also converted to "cint" on the 2nd page of the form for calculation.

The form is located at:  http://www.charactercorner.com/newcc/registration_test.asp and you can see what I mean when you select the grade level radio button.  A respective region will appear, but in the text box region, it will not allow to type, and, although you can select a radio button from the other region (9th - 12th), the error appears when you press "Continue" at the bottom.

However, after I applied the Javascript to display those regions based on radio button selection, the fields are present, but I am unable to type anything in the one text field, and after I try and select one of the radio buttons with a numeric value, I "Continue" to the 2nd page and get the error:  "Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'cint' /newcc/registration2.asp, line 19".

I may need to include all the code from my 2 pages, but this may just be a syntax problem.  "Line 19" is from the 2nd form page which does the conversion to "cint" for calculation purposes.  Here is that line:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
total=(cint(request.form("numclasses")) * 50) + (cint(request.form("numtranscript")) * 50) + cint(request.form("payoption"))
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need you help,
Shane

lshane:
I checked your html code and I found that Your redifined numclasses field and payoption field in your code.
As a rule, the redefined fields will be ignored by browser.

Here's test code, for this code, you click test, the result is "undefined" .
Then, delete redefined line, the result is fine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<html><head></head>
<body>
<form name=form1>
<input name="test1" type=text size=20> <br>
<input name="test2" type=radio value=2> 2 <br>

<input name="test1" type=text size=20> <br>

<input type="button" value=test onclick="show();">
</form>
<script>
function show()
{
      alert(form1.test1.value);
}
</script>
</body>
</html>

Mybe you must rearrange your html code to avoid redefined fields.

Hello, xlt77.  Thanks for your reply.  OK - so it appears I have redifined some things from the "Continue" page (Form 1).

I didn't want to bother you with displaying my code, but I don't know of another way to show what I'm doing. As you noticed when you viewed the page at http://www.charactercorner.com/newcc/registration_test.asp, there are grade levels that must be selected.  It really only has 2 results:

1) A table should appear when "7th" or "8th' is selected
2) A different table should appear when selected "9th", "10th", "11th", or "12th" is selected.

As it is, I created a table for each grade level and assigned it an "ID".  Here's the code for the page.  If you can help me with a better way, I would appreciate it.  The "cint" conversion works great when I remove the Javascript function from this page, but I'd like to have the areas appear when the respective radio button is selected.  Here's the code and thank you so much in advance for your willingness to help in this:

Hi. xlt77.  I know that last posting was a lot of code.  I stripped it down to a bare page, for easier viewing.

http://www.charactercorner.com/newcc/test_form2.asp

1) Click "7th" on this page and try to type in the box -- it will not allow it.
2) Why will it not let me type, so I can pass that data to another page?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<%@LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%>
<html>
<head>
<title>JS Test</title>
<style>
div.fee {

</style>
<script>
var theFee;
function showFees(theForm){
  if(theFee) theFee.style.display="none";
  var theGrade = theForm.grade;
  for(var i=0;i<theGrade.length;i++){
    if(theGrade[i].checked){
      theFee=document.getElementById("fee"+theGrade[i].value);
      theFee.style.display="block";
      return;
    }
  }
}
</script>
</head>

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Hi lshane
Your code is so complex that I have no enough time to rearrange it . Here show a sample , with this way, you can arrange your code easily.
For this sample, you can get runtime field by signing a predefined DIV's innerHTML to your FORM DIV's innerHTML.
When you click test button, you will get runtime value of field test displayed.
Here's the sample
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<html><head></head>
<body>
<div style="display:none;" id="div1">
 <table>
 <tr><td><input name="test1" size=20 value='div1 Test1'></td></tr>
 <tr><td><input name="test3" size=20 value='div1 Test3'></td></tr>
 </table>
</div>

<div style="display:none;" id="div2">
 <table>
      <tr><td><input name="test1" size=20 value='div2 Test1'></td></tr>
      <tr><td><input name="test2" size=20 value='div2 Test2'></td></tr>
 </table>
</div>

<form name=form1>
<input type=radio name=myradio value=1 onclick='return setchange(div1);'> 1
<input type=radio name=myradio value=2 onclick='return setchange(div2);'> 2 <br>
<div id='myDiv'>
<input name=test1 size=20>
</div>
<input type=button value=test onclick='show();'>
</form>
<script>
function setchange(v)
{
  myDiv.innerHTML=v.innerHTML;
  return true;
}
function show()
{
  alert(form1.test1.value);
}
</script>
</body>
</html>

lshane :
Your bare page has defined a form event : onKeyDown="this.onclick()"
Every time you type in INPUT, a form event onKeyDown will be triggled, and showFees(this) function will be called.

xlt77:

Thanks so much for your help!  If you could, please, bear with me just a little longer.  I took your suggested code and placed it in a new, bare page: <http://www.charactercorner.com/newcc/test_form4.asp> (You can view the source).

The regions appear when the respective radio buttons are selected, now. However, the values from the fields are not being passed to the "action" page of the form: <http://www.charactercorner.com/newcc/test_form4_receive.asp>.  All the variables are defined (I think), it's just not displaying.  I altered your code to actually include all the "div" tables inside the form, but still having the same problem.

I know you are extremely busy, but I think it can be resolved rather quickly by your expertise, if you could help me just a little longer.  Thank you!

Here is the code for the "action" page:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<%@LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%>
<html>
<%
Dim pname, add1, add2, formcity, formtstate, formzip, formphone, formcellphone, formemail, sname, sbirthdate, sssn, grade, numclasses, numtranscript, total, totalsubj, payoption
pname=request.form("pName")
add1=request.form("add1")
add2=request.form("add2")
formcity=request.form("formcity")
formstate=request.form("formstate")
formzip=request.form("formzip")
formphone=request.form("formphone")
formcellphone=request.form("formcellphone")
formemail=request.form("formemail")
sname=request.form("sname")
sbirthdate=request.form("sbirthdate")
sssn=request.form("sssn")
grade=request.form("grade")
numclasses=request.form("numclasses")
total=(cint(request.form("numclasses")) * 50) + (cint(request.form("numtranscript")) * 50) + cint(request.form("payoption"))
totalsubj=(cint(request.form("numclasses"))  * 50)
%>
<head>
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>

<body>
<%  If  (cint(request.form("numclasses"))) = "1" Then %><td colspan="3">You have selected&nbsp;<%=numclasses%>&nbsp;subject for your&nbsp;<%=grade%>-grade
                                      student.<br>
                                      Your total for this subject is: $<%=totalsubj%> <% end if %>

<% If  (cint(request.form("numclasses"))) > "1" Then %><td colspan="3"><p>You
    have selected&nbsp;<%=numclasses%>&nbsp;subjects for your&nbsp;<%=grade%>-grade
    student.<br>
    Your total for these subjects is: $<%=totalsubj%></p>

</p></td> <% end if %>
</body>
</html>

Yeah!
   For vbScript, 'request.form' only get the form data with method='POST'. Your bare page's form is with method='GET' by default.
   Replace all 'request.form' in your action page with request then it will work, or you can set your bare page's form method='POST'.
