Media Center 2005 Entertainment PC FM Radio Problem

Hi Experts

I have a Media Center 2005 Entertainment PC. Underneath the unit the model number is shown as TOR9326 and it states that it is assembled my Tatung - the exact same unit as shown as http://www.mecerpc.co.za/downloads/mecer-media-centre.php

I am having a specific problem with the AverMedia PCI TV Card that is in this unit.
All the devices that make up this entertainment PC are Windows XP Media Center 2005 Certified and as such I am able to use the entertainment PC to Watch TV, Record TV, Listen to MP3’s, do all the Media Center functions etc.. but the only thing that does not work is the Radio Function in Windows Media Center mode.
I have tried all sorts of solutions, namely by uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for the AverMedia TV Card, running the Media Center setup again, reloadeing the PC, etc.. but nothing fixes the problem.

I then took things a step further by opening up the machine to see if I could get the specific model number of the AverMedia PCI TV Card in order to download the latest drivers, but it does not state it ANYWHERE on the PCI TV Card. I then downloaded ALL the latest PCI TV Card drivers from the www.Aver.com website, tried these, but this did not fix the problem one bit.

Any suggestions on how to get the FM Radio function to work????

Thanks in advance Experts

One of the devices on the aver site you linked to doesn't include an FM Radio, maybe your PC is using that model? Download the free everest version, run it and post what it finds here:

It definitely has a FM feature on the Card - not only does it have a FM Antenna input on the back of the card but i the menu options of Media Center the 'Radio' option is available - it would not appear there if the TV Tuner card does not have a Radio feature - I will run Everest and post the results.
Boot the PC with a knoppix CD, it supports most TV cards and if it doesn't work with yours you might have a hardware problem.

http://knoppix.net
the card does work - only the FM Radio function in Media Center doesnt work?
The FM part on the card is separate from the TV tuner, it's another module, so using knoppix should show if that module is broken.
Under the volume control do you see th FM Radio volume slider?? If not i suggest you open up the Volume Control and go to Options>Properties and enable the FM/Auxilary volume icon and then make sure its not set to mute. If you say that the Media center shows FM as enabled then it should give volume. Also did you get any specefic aplication with the card in which the radio should work.

Dan
I have knoppix - will load it up in that now - but how could i test the FM Function using knoppix? will it pick up automatically? or what software could i use to test it then?

ok - heres an update

knoppix v3.9 does not load (this is the version of knoppix i have) - I tested the Knoppix CD on another PC and it worked fine so i might need to download the latest version of Knoppix that has the correct drivers for this machine (the PC i tested it on was slightly older) - i will start the lastest knoppix version download so long but its going to take a while but this by no means is the solution to the problem though.

Dan - where exactly is this FM Radio volume slider that you are refering too? In Windows Media Center 2005, as one of the menu options i have ''Radio' as a selection. When I select it and go into it  I select a frequency that i know has a radio station on it, select 'Start FM', but nothing is played. In the bottem right hand corner you have the volume control panel that allows you to pause, stop, rewind, volume up and down etc, but I am not sure if this is the volume slider you where refering to.

I then closed Media Center, went start --> Settings --> Control Panel ---> SOund and Audio Devices, but there is no FM/ Auxilary icon or options anywhere there.

Thanks

Update

i have found the specific AverMedia TV Card - http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/product.php?productid=1243&cat=0&page=

I now want to find the latest drivers for this card and test them.
I don't know if knoppix has the radio and tv card function included anyway, but version 4.02 does. Sure, knoppix isn't the solution, but it is a way to make sure if it is a hardware (warranty -> return) or software problem.
OK, i fixed the problem - this is how.

I opened up device manager and then uninstalled the 4 Avermedia drivers - then rebooted the PC. after the reboot the PC picks up the device again and installs the drivers automatically. after it did this i ran the media center setup again. when i got to the part where i configure the TV Signal i made sure i configurede BOTH TV Signals (as this is indeed a Dual Tuner Card) and after this the Radio worked 100%.

Thanks
