Utility to convert jpg to ascii

We have a mamographic image in jpg that we want to convert to ascii format.

1. We have looked at the net and could find utilities but none allowed us to save the image as txt format.

2. Someone else suggested that it is only a couple lines of code in

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you to replying to my post.  I found another which was the 'characterizer software'. Then after a million of these sites...I told my pal that you know what docs should have a professional looking pathology outline rather then goofy letters  around the edges :-).
