Adaware + Server 2003 + Roaming Profile

Before I do this, I wanted to ask what the pros on here use when it comes to spyware.  I never had spyware on my server until I started using folder redirects and roaming profile.  Now I'm getting a lot of it, all from the roaming profiles.  Before I use adaware or some other type of antispyware software, I wanted it to ask if anyone has done this before.  The last thing I want to do is run the software and then ruin their profiles.

My experience of spyware (including using Adaware) is that it scans your system and prompts you whether you wish to delete files or not.

Run it and then check the results, perhaps that might be better, for a initial few runs until you detemine whether or not its spyware.

I know with some u can specify where to look.

There is the risk of files that certain virus checkers/spyware may think its dodgy but that risk is small.

If u worried, I guess u could perform a backup first then run it, what do you think

I was actually going to use my practice server, create a roaming profile with redirects, load it up with spyware by going to odd sites and then see what happens after I run adaware.  The last thing I want is to have to resort to recovering data.  I'm still a little green when it comes to BackupExec 10g.  I probably should mess around with it some more though.

I also use the old ntbackup once a week, just in case.

hi there

adware and spyware are malicious codes which keep track of all the user interaction on websites and they serve the pages or redirect to the likely websites when u have typed a partial address.

if u want a roaming profile and without spyware or and adware then try to use mandatory profiles which cannot be altered.

if u want to us roaming profiles which are secure try to using mandatory profiles which.

this link would help u make a decision

I've set up mandatory profiles before.  The thing is, you weren't able to save on the desktop after you set it up.  I'm actually going to look around for adawre software that I can have on each client, as well as the server.  The only thing, I'll have to find software that runs in the background.

Does anyone know of software that does this at an affordable price?

I use xoftspy from paretologic (http://www.paretologic.com/products.aspx). I find it pretty decent, but with any spyware remover it doesnt find everything. Good enough for my needs though

This software has a built in scheduler so I guess u can use something along those lines. I dont use it as I manually start the jobs

You may want to wait for other experts, see what they say

Thanks a lot guys.  I think my best bet is to create another thread that asks about which sypware program to use.
