Software Raid
Hi,
I'm having a small budget and I'm going to buy a cheap server from Dell with two 160 GB SATA drives for an amaziing low price. It's not possible to add a SATA raid card to this server so I have to go with software RAID...
1. Can I configure software Raid 1 after windows is installed? How?
2. If I add eg Adaptec Serial ATA RAID 1210SA later, can I setup the hard drives in Raid1 (mirror) without reinstall/format the hard drive?
Thanks in advance!

One more thing what is the disadvantage of software Raid? If one drive crashes, can I just remove the bad disk and install a new drive and then just do the steps in 1 from Jay_Jay70.
Thanks!
Thanks!
yes you can, we have multiple old installs with sw raid (before hw was as cheaps as it is) and if a disk failed, we would put in a new on abd rebuil the raid through windows.
if the boot drive died, we would swap the mirror to boot and create a new mirror drive

Thanks, if the boot drive die, how do I set the mirror to bootdrive? I guess some mbr command?
nope its easier :) you just change the jumper settings on the mirror drive to make it the master :)
