Yahoo Messenger - Script errors
Hello Experts,
Win 2000 Pro ... IE 6.0 ... Yahoo Messenger 7.5 (latest as of now)
Whenever I try to open a IM window, or whenever someone sends me a message, an error pops up saying:
An error has occurred in the script on this page
Line ...
Char ...
Error Unexpected quantifier
Code 0
URL C:/some/temp/file -- this is a file in temp folder and it seems that name is dynamically generated as file name changes e.g. temp44 to temp45
"do you want to continue running scripts on this page" Yes/No
Either way it opens the IM window .... However, I cannot view any messages in the window .. not even the ones I write ... It remains absolutely blank ...
I have had this problem since I upgraded to YIM 7.5 a few hours ago.
Any help will be appreaciated.
Cheers!

moh10ly,
Not sure which directory you are refering to ... I could not find any directory named history in yahoo folder. Pls elaborate.
>This could be an active script which might be sent to you within a website in one of the IMs,
I can use stock quotes etc. without any problem ... It is only IM windows which are a cause of concern.
ISoul,
Yes, tried that .... did not help :-(
Thanks

The Folder looks like this..
c:\program files\yahoo messenger\messenger\profil es
This folder contains all of your history and yahoo saved IMs... try to move it to different location...
Don't move the profiles folder, Move the folders inside it..

Does your IE operating Well ... ??

Yes ... IE works well ... no problems so far ... though I use it sparingly .. my default browser is firefox
About 3 days ago from now I had IE 7.2 beta, I uninstalled it and then tried to install 6.0, I had problem with it, when i send message to friends they can see what i type but i can't see what they type, so most of yahoo IMs rely on IE, I guess you should re-register some IE dlls...
Start > Run > type in each line and click OK:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll

Let me say that i'm sure 100% that your IE is causing this issue..

Registeration for all DLLs completed without a problem ... However, the problem still persists.
I would be happy to downgrade to YIM 7.0 or lower if that can solve the problem. Is there a way to do that? I cant seem to find older installers on yahoo.

I would like to try a still lower version of YIM ... can you please upload 6.0 or any other (stable) version which was released between 6.0 and 7.0
Is there something special about using YIM? You could use Gaim (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gaim/) as it offers support for yahoo messenger accounts. (also for MSN, AIM, and a host of others...)

Thanks kylebheyne ...
I had evaluated the option of using Gaim or Trillian, but my first rpeference would be YIM ... I am way too habituated to it's UI and do like it .... I would rather not have then new frills of voice calls than change the messenger

did you try running a registry cleaning utility before installing YIM? Also, if it only happened a few hours ago have you considered just doing a system restore?

Your welcome ;) glad to help
This could be an active script which might be sent to you within a website in one of the IMs, and everytime you open your Yahoo it starts to work...
Give this a shot..
