Permission to run dbcc traceon in sql2005

Hi experts.
We have switched one of our servers to mssql 2005.
When people try and connect to get adata from the database with excel they are getting the error below.

      Connection failed:
      Sql state ‘3700’
      Sql server error: 2571
      [Microsoft][odbc sql driver][sql server] user ‘reporting’ does not have the permission to run dbcc treaceon

I have googled with no result, so I am turning to the pros.
Any help would be appreciated.

To run DBCC Traceon you requires membership in the sysadmin fixed
server role.
