Site to Site VPN Printing

We had a site to site vpn setup where siteA (home office) was connected to siteB (main office) through a sonicwall router/firewall on both ends. We had a Konica Minolta 2430DL hardwired to the sonicwall and we were able to print locally from both a WindowsXP and Apple OSX from siteA and were able to print from select users from SiteB to siteA.

We recently implemented a Linsys Wireless Print Server, model Wps54gu2, and moved the printer to an upstairs room in siteA. Locally we can still print to the print server but now our connection from siteB has been broken. I am able to ping the UNC name of the XP machine in siteA from siteB but not able to transverse the XP machine in siteA to access printer. The printer at siteA has been setup for sharing.

One thing I noticed that im not sure is the reason behind all of this is that the default gateway on both sites are different. SiteA has 192.168.168.168 and siteB uses 192.168.1.1, the subnet mask is the same at both locations.

Anyone know how I can get SiteB to print to SiteA through this Linksys Print Server?

Any assistance is much appriciated.

Hi ESPartee,

are you able to actually ping the address of the print server?

yes im able to ping address 192.168.168.1 successfully with a return response
BTW: I just modified the printer address to be the exact same as the print server: 192.168.168.1
and your not able to ping the machine where the printer is installed yes? by IP or Name?
no sure what your question is but I can ping the 192.168.168.1 address, which is now the tcp/ip address of both the linksys print server and the konica printer
Issue has been resolved. First off, I modified the printer ip address to be the same as the Linksys print server, these 2 must be the same. The subnet also must be the same. The gateway seems to be independent because were going through VPN.

Apple OSX: Apples need special drivers call CUPS to be able to print to a post script printer, which is what most printers that are out are.

Main Office: I had to run a special program from Linksys called BIadmin to be able to locate printer. The program was able to locate and "see" printer at home office from main office, however you must manually specify what the IP address is, so it is necessary to know what that is before using this app. After detecting the printer in this program then I ran the Konica setup app. that is included with (at least) this printers drivers. I was only able to locate this file when searching through the extracted cab file.

Hope this help other people who are dealing with the same issue.
good stuff
