I am trying to install Server 2003 R2 components cd on a domain controller. I have updated the schema on the domain controller. When I click on setup2.exe in the R2 directory I am getting the following error message, Another application requires a restart of this computer. Before Setup can run, you must restart the computer. I have ran all of the windows updates except for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 SP3, because I have installed the newer version of .NET Framework version 2.0. I think that this may have something to do with it.

Hi jwhite35242,

have you run the proper ADPREP tools?

with windows 2003 R2 (release 2) you will need to run the adprep tools from the second cd supplied in the 2 cd set!

\CMPNENTS\R2\ADPREP

you can also download here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5B73CF03-84DD-480F-98F9-526EC09E9BA8&displaylang=en

this boosts the schema up to cope with R2 functionality

Yes, I have tried that. I am going to try to force replication on the domain controller now. Thanks for your input.

hmm which machine did you run it from, should be running from the DC that holds the schema master
