Pushing .MSI packages with Active Directory

I've just starting monkeying around with deploying packages (.msi installs) via Active Directory.  Everything seems to be working fine.  Does anyone know how to edit the install so that it creates a desktop shortcut after completion.  In addition.... is there a simple way (or product) that will allow me to package non-microsoft software into .msi format?

Thanks,
John

Look at appdeploy.com, it has an msi-section ("packages") with many hints and utilities.
There are a few programs like wininstall le 2003 that compare the files and registry of a computer before and after the installation of a software and create a differential msi from that.

For the shortcute: Maybe this?
