ESM shows user mailbox contains many more items than Outlook shows...

We have a user that the Exchange System Manager shows the he has 22,000 + total items.  In Outlook, he only has messages in his Inbox.  He has no contacts, no calendar events, sent items, deleted items, notes, etc...  The number of messages in his Inbox shows approximately 9,000.  So why/how is Exchange System Manager showing that there are 22,000 + items?  Is this counting messages and attachments?  There are currently no filters or views configured in his Outlook.  Any feedback would be great!

This is not that unusual. I believe ISINTEG can correct this.
Command used to be (in Exchange 5.5): isinteg -pri -fix -detailed -l isinteg.log -test mailbox
Should still work in later versions... Be sure you have a good backup though.
