Using Microsoft Outlook 2003 and want to know how to type characters.

1. Use the windows "Character Map"
2. Learn the ASCII ALt-xxxx codes for the characters you want.
3. Change you keyboard settings to use US_International and have most of the characters available using the RIGHT_ALT key+ ...

adding to meintsi's comment, make sure the email is in plain text. use the link for all the 4 digits codes. use the number keypad

All three methods work for all types of mail: plain text, rich text, and html.
