I get a 0x8024400a error when I try to update Windows Defender Beta 2.  It will not go out and grab new definitions.

Greetings, ispexpert !

Open the command prompt
Go to C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\ folder
Execute the following command: msiexec /x AS_Sigs.msi

As a workaround, use Microsoft Update (http://update.microsoft.com/) and it presented the
Windows Defender update when you select the "Custom" update.

Best wishes!

Select "No" if asked to uninstall program.

This a Windows Update issue.  Go to the Windows Update site and download Windows Defender updates from the Custom tab.

I agree because I get an error every time I try to go to Windows Update as well.  After clicking on the Custom button, here is the error I get.

ispexpert,

Delete your Temporary Internet Files and History, then delete the configuration files from the WindowsUpdate folder. Then add Windows Update to the Trusted Zones Site.  Make sure your system time and date is correct.

Start > Run and type regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
Do the same for
SOFTPUB.DLL
INITPKI.DLL
MSSIP32.DLL
URLMON.DLL
WINTRUST.DLL
