Adobe Illustrator of the CS2 Suite is Saying that it has insufficient RAM to open any file when the computer has 1.5GB of RAM...

GooD Day Experts,

We are running CS2 Creative suite on XP Pro and Illustrator says the it has insufficient memory to when we try opening a file.  There is only one hard drive and the Page file is set at 4 GB.  There is only one non-default font installed and when I check Task Manager to see the amount available memory it says that there is over a 1GB available.  This article had a similar problem but I don't know what or how they mean by adjusting the Temp directory:

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21354560/Insufficient-Memory-was-available.html?query=adobe+illustrator+has+insufficient+memory&clearTAFilter=true

So how do I get Illustrator to open a file so We can work on them?

Many Thanks,

Ellsworth

I think what solved it there was investigating the windows temp directory. You can adjust this in the control panel, but it sounds like you have the virtual memory set... Also you can adjust how much temp storage illustrator is allowed, this is called scratch disc space. Unfourtionatly you are working with only one hard drive, but still I dont think that should be an issue.

I have had occasion to witness this error before, and it was actualy just a corrupted file. That may possibly be the case here.

I think you have the specs to open even a daunting Illustrator file here, but maybe have run into some unfriendly files. Hopefully however this IS a memory issue/

how big is the file and what type of file is it?

To fix this problem I had to recreate my preferences file.  To do this< close illustrator, rename the AIPrefs file located here: C:\documents and settings\userprofile\application data\adobe\Illustrator Version settings

and reopen Illustrator :D.  This is the Adobe support Document I got this from(Number 4):

Thanks for your responses, :)
