Cant Send mail to users with user.name@email.com format addresses through exchange 2003

Whenever one of our users sends an email to or replies to an person which has the email format user.name@email.com then the mail doenst get sent - I get a message about a virtual mailbox error.

There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.  Please contact your system administrator.
<topaz.livingstone.com #5.5.0 smtp;550 <hristina.chiripova@mobexpert.bg>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table>

Any clues why this is happening?

Does this happens while mailing "hristina.chiripova@mobexpert.bg" user ?

Try mailing at yahoo, hotmail ?? check the results

Description of 5.5.0 "General protocol error (for example, the remote SMTP server responded to EHLO with a 500 level error, and the sending system QUIT the connection. The server reported this with an NDR indicating the remote SMTP server can’t handle the protocol)."

Solution: Perform an SMTP log or Netmon trace to determine why the remote SMTP server rejects the protocol requests.

This should be an issue with remote email server.

Thanks
Kunal

This is a common error for the Postfix mail system. Do you have any further details? Is this just one particular user sending to one particular recipient. How is your outbound mail being routed?

Hi,
This is an Exchange System, Internal Email is fine - External email is fine except email addresses in that format and it affects all users to all domains.
Mail is getting sent via Exchange and recieved through a pop connector.
