Firefox v Internet Explorer Problem (Add a Contact)

Hi all,
I have a piece of code I'm using to "Add an MSN contact" to an address book. For some reason this works in II but not in FF. If anyone has experienced similar problem or knows of a way to alter the code to make it work also in FF I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
D

Here's the tag:
<p><a href="msnim:add?contact=info@teacher.ie ">Add me to your MSN Messenger contact list</a>&nbsp; </p>

There are lots of tags that are IE Specific and are not supported in other browsers, i suppose msnim:add?contact=email is one of them..

Cheers,

It definitely is.  The only way it would work is if the prefix (msnim) were added to firefox.  This is done for security reasons.  There used to be a hole that would allow you to sneak it past firefox's defenses and force it to open in IE, but that's since been plugged.  There used to be a way to add it to your list via msn's website.  If it still works, you could point the link to that and then all they have to do to add the person to their list is enter their username and password.  Not sure of what the url is anymore, though.

do you mean add the prefix to the firefox browser on the user's computer or to my web server? Also, is it possible to alter the code so that it would also work with Firefox?
Thanks,

On the user's computer.  And no, it's not.  You could create a firefox extension that adds a url processor to handle it, but for it to work, internet explorer would still have to be available and runnable on the system (typically possible for windows machines).  However, this still wouldn't work on Opera or any of the other browsers out there.  Basically, you'd need a solution for each browser type.
