Canon Printer (all in one) making random clicking noise when its idle?

How old is it?  All-in-one printers have a lot of moving parts and are succeptible to faster wear than normal printers.  They are difficult to troubleshoot even if you have one in front of you, let alone by posting on a forum.  The first thing you need to do is identify where the clicking noise is coming from.  Once you have done that, you can begin removing parts to see if that has an effect.

How much daily usage did it get?  Can you isolate where the clicking noise comes from?

Does it click all the time, or just a few seconds every few hours?

I know I have a printer that "clicks" every now and again for 3-5 seconds every few hours.  I think it does that to reinitialze the cartridges, check ink levels, and to spray a bit of ink to keep the heads wet.   Im not sure WHAT it does precicely, but I think its normal if it is doing it like I described.
