Need program to watch folders for files

I need a program to do the following:

Watch 2 layers of folders for any files in any of the folders for over 5 minutes between the hours of 6am-8pm.

Email me when a file has been in a folder for over 5 minutes.

Watch for any type of file in these folders

A program will be putting files into these folders and another program picking them up. I need to know when the pickup program isnt working correctly.

Thanks

You can write a shell script to do this for you. I'll outline the basic concepts here. Tell me if it suits your needs. Writing the whole script is a challenge, no doubt.

What you can basically do is to put in a loop that runs n number of times at regular intervals after a wait or pause statement. In that loop, you need to initiate an elaborate directory listing of the directory(ies) you want to monitor and compare it against a previously created log of the directory listing. If there is a mismatch, you can use telnet to connect to an smtp server you know and send you mail informing you about the mismatch. To run this shell script at a specified time, you'll need to use a special program like Task Manager or similar.

You can also try this free software

http://www.pcsoftland.com/utilities/antivirus/Monidir-2000.htm

Monidir 2000 is a freeware tool that will monitor up to

20 different folders. Files that are deleted, changed

or added to the folders are reported via e-mail or via

an audible and visible alarm.

The program runs in the system tray and will scan your

folders in user defined intervals. When a change

occurs the filenames are gathered and sent via

e-mail to one or more recipients.

Monidir 2000 works on Windows 95,98,ME,NT and 2000.

It requires a minimum of memory and can monitor folders

over a network.

bk, the script could potentially work but there is no way I could set that up with my lack of scripting knowledge.

Joe, I just installed and tried that software, it seems it does the opposite of what I need.  I can only figure out how to set up notifications for changes, deletes and mods of files, not watching for a file in there too long.

Thanks

The programs wouldnt do what I needed them to do without changes to the program. We finally got what we need using cold fusion.

Not sure what to do with the points?
