Is there a way from within filemaker 8 to create or delete a directory - which I need to use to hold temporary files that are saved from containers when emailing attachments.

bonjour Bertrand!
no you can't. you could use a plug-in to handle that, but it is probably easier to use the system temp folder.
its value is know from a shell variable %temp%, so any shell script can use that to create then delete some files.
and these scripts can be triggered by fm using "send event".
if under osX, I need to try, since I have not tried yet to trigger shell scripts with fm, so let me know if you use windows or macos

fyi, I have created a small shell script called by an applescript command which can create and delete a folder on disk under osX.
is is a bit more complex than under windows, but does the job.
