"Envelope" (new email) icon doesn't show any longer in system tray

I've been using Outlook 2002 for some time now.

I always keep it "running" in the background w/ the window minimized.    Until recently, when new emails arrived, it showed the "envelope" icon in my system tray (until email was opened).

For some unknown reason, the envelope icon doesn't show up any longer (in system tray) once new emails arrive.

I don't know why... I really like this feature and would like it to work again.    I haven't changed any settings.   Any ideas what might be causing the new email icon to not show any longer in the system tray?

Greetings, TomBock2004.

First, check to see if the feature is turned on.  Click Tools->Options->E-mail Options->Advanced E-mail Options and see if the "Show an envelope icon in the notification area" box is checked.

Cheers!

Yes, the "Show an envelope icon in the notification area" is checked in the Advanced options menu.

I've checked it off, then on again... sent myself a test email and minimized Outlook.  Still, no luck... it doesn't show up.

Any more pointers?

TomBock2004,

Try creating a new profile.  It's unbelievable how many Outlook ills that cures.

Okay... I'll try it tonight once I'm back at home.

Does creating a new profile involve moving all PST file and Contacts as well?

TomBock2004,

No.  The profile is just a number of registry entries.  You create a profile from the Mail icon in the Control Panel.

BlueDevilFan,

thanks for sharing this w/ me.  Creating a new profile did the "trick"... the envelope now appears in my system tray again.
