About terminal server

I have a wireless ADSL modem and Router, a desktop computer that directly connects to the router, a laptop  with wireless card. The desktop has win 2003 server.

What I want is to buy just another monitor, keyboard and mouse to build a terminal and use the desktop computer as server (I mean sharing the hard disk, cpu, motherboard..).

The questions are
1) what are the hardware to buy? I think I need some hardware to connect the new display, keyboard etc to the desktop computer.

2)How to build the network wirelessly? Currently even my laptop cannot connect to the desltop compter wirelessly.

Thank u.

Hi petershaw9,

i think you may have a slight misunderstanding of terminal services.......

terminal services allows a user to have a virtual session from another machine, you are working on one machine and effectively working on the server itself....

what are you aiming to acheive
It sounds like you want to have a second machine that shares the processing power of your server, that’s called a thin client. There are a few ways to do this. Simply buy one for about $300 plus monitor and keyboard. Check out www.wyse.com.

Or find some old desktop machine that will at least run Windows 95. Then install the RDP client on it. Here is the link for that. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/tools/rdclientdl.mspx

To setup your wireless router you need to run the setup wizard. It will be on the router’s built in website or sometimes on a CD. You should have some type of quick start guide with the router that will tell you the routers default address. Usually something like 192.168.0.1

ASKER

I might misunderstand terminal service. What I want is the desktop has one set of monitor and keyboard locally and another set of moniter and keyboard remotely through cable or wireless.
terminal services still requires an additional machine. you log on to terminal services from a machine, its just like running any other application, you can have just a keyboard and mouse running! has to have a base of Operations as such.....
