php, asp and jsp on one server

I am about to get a new web server from Exalia and i'm going to ask them if it can be set up to run ASP, PHP and JSP (Java and JavaBeans) pages.

OS is going to be Centos 4.3.

I know ASP can run on a linux machine with Sun Java System Active Server Pages 4.0, and I know PHP can run on a linux machine. But what about them all being used on one server.

I want to make a server environment that will be flexible. I'm also trying to learn Java at the moment, and it would be nice to have my company set up an environment for me to learn :-)

Thanks

Alternatively would a windows envorment be better as i know PHP, ASP, ASP.NET pages all run on that, but how would i install the JavaBeans and JSP?

Hi jaycangel,

Sun Java System ASP 4.0, PHP and JSP could run on a single Linux server without problem.  The problem is that I am not sure what kind of hosting you are getting from Exalia (and I am also not familiar with Exalia).  Some hosting company has restricted environment which make setting up those services impossible.

You also mentioned about ASP.NET, which is only running on Windows.  So if you want ASP.NET you have to go with Windows.  Windows can do JSP, JavaBeans without problem.  You can install JBoss, or Apache Tomcat, as long as you have Java install, those JSP, EJB server will run.

Exalia are a fully managed service, we're getting a dedicated server so we can run what ever set up we want.

Which installation would you recommend, the Linux or the Windows version?

The only problem that I see is that ASP.NET.  I am a strong avocate of Linux, but if you want to do ASP.NET, I would recommend you to go with the Windows Server.

don't really need .NET, main thing is being able to do simple ASP

If you only need just simple ASP, then it is ok to go with Linux.  I prefer to use Linux because they are more open.

Thanks, I will ask my hosting company what they think. Its just i'd not heard of a setup with ASP, JSP and PHP on Linux before.

Thanks
