I get this error from a RAC cluster of 9i databases we have. For some reason the 10g agent although up and fine is reported as being down in EM Grid Control with error message the agent reports ok for only one database in the cluster:

Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12157: TNS:internal network communication error (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).

Any ideas ?

There are known bugs in earlier releases of 9i related to this type of error, but they don't apply to your version.

Sounds like your SID or SERVICE aren't correct in your TNSNAMES.ORA file.

    Can you tnsping your database?

    Can you connect to SQL*Plus?
