What type of connection is running between the locations? Ethernet? Something else? If it's Ethernet and only one vlan, just connect them together.

Geomax is the connection running between them .
Already we have Valns assigned in each location for netback up,but dint assign any ip address.
So how to extend the Vlan. How do i need to configure it ,so that a test connection can be made between the two locations.

you really need to explain the topology better, I can't help you if I don't know how things are connected. Do you have switches? Are the switches connected? What kind of switches? How does the Geomax connect to your locations? Maybe someone else is familiar with it but I'm not.

Core switches(6509) on each location are connected using a geomax (2gb).
The core switch is connected to the distribution switches and the distribution switches are connected to the server switches,we have  a the vlans on the server switches.

One Location on server switch we have a Netbackup running on vlan 100 and the same as on the other location .
We need to extend the vlan to test the data .
If in case any failure happens on1  location through using this extended vlan we need to netbackup on to the other location.

This is fully on layer 2,how to work on it.Please let me know experts

OK, that's more clear. But one question remains- What kind of interface is used on the 6509s for the Geomax connections? Ethernet or something else?

OK. So you have vlan 100 in both locations already. You will need to create vlan 100 on every switch along the path. So if it is vlan 100, you will need to create the vlan on the distribution and core switches on both sides. The links between the switches need to be set up as trunks so that they can carry more than one vlan (maybe they already are). Then you would add the vlan to the trunks, and from there everything should work.

Are the distribution switches Cisco also? If they are, and you tell me what software is running on the distribution and core switches I can tell you how to configure.

Now, you say you have DCs on those vlans. So they are already running IP? Is there any reason that you don't want the 2 locations to route to each other? Then you wouldn't have to connect vlan 100 together

Thanks mikeberhardt.

The Distribution(6509) and Core(6509) switches are running IOS and the server switches are running cat OS they have MSFC installed in it.

When i give the command sh valn on core switch i am able to  see the Vlan 100 as netback up active ,but no switch ports are assigned to it.So how should i configure and from where i need to start working on it.

If trunks have the vlan, they don't show up under show vlan.

Type "show interface trunk" on the IOS switches and look at the ports that need to carry vlan 100 and see if they are listed there. If they are already trunks, then look under "Vlans allowed and active in management domain" to see if they already have vlan 100 allowed on them. If not, you can add it where needed.

From what you described it sounds like the Cat OS switches already have vlan 100 but it may not be on the trunks there either. Type "show trunk" and you will see similar output to the above.

Mikebernhardt ,thaks for  quick response.
here is what i look on my core switch

Core Switch: Sh int trunk
Gi1/23    101,111,100,201-202
Po1       ,104-107,109-110,112,160,162,164,167-168,100,187-188,190-191,201-202,889,988,1100,1102,1104-1106,1109,1160,1162,1164,1167-1168,1187-1188,1190-1191,1988
Po2       ,104,109-110,112,160,162,164,167-168,100,187-188,190-191,201-202,988
Po3       ,104,109-110,112,160,162,164,167-168,100,187-188,190-191,201-202,988
When I give the command on server switch I can c  the vlan 100 configured and running

 Sh vlan
100 Net_Backup         active

interface Vlan120
 description Backup VLAN Interface
 ip address 172.x.x.x  255.255.255.0
 standby ip 172.x.x.x
 standby priority 105
 standby preempt

but the ip address 172.x.x..x are  assigned to vlan 120 ,which need to be extended to vlan 100 ,from 1 location to another.

So it seems like you need to enable vlan 100 on the core switches:
config t
vlan 100

But now I'm confused. You said that you needed to get vlan 100 from one location to the other but now you are talking about vlan 120. Which one needs to get to the other side? Or do both of them need to cross?

Vlan 100 is for Netback up ,but no ports are assigned to it ,and vlan 120 is just backup vlan.
already vlan 100  exist on both location core switches. This is what i have the info ,if you need further more info ,i can provide you.

Which one do you want to connect between the 2 locations? Vlan 100? Vlan 120? Or both of them?

Core Switch of location A :
 Sh vlan#
100 Net_Backup   active
CORE-SWT1A>sh int trunk
Can c the trunk of vlan
>sh conf
vlan 100
 name Net_Backup

This is what i c on my core switch on tow locations ,i need to extend the netback up vlan,so that data can be tested between these 2 locations .
Need to connect vlan 100 between these 2 locations.

OK. First you need to know which ports on the core switch connect to the other location, and which connect to the distribution switch. But assuming that you need all of the ones in your "show interface trunk" above, type:

config t
interface range g1/23 , po1 , po2 , po3
switchport trunk allow vlan add 100

Check your distribution switches and make sure that vlan 100 is active there and also add it to the correct ports there as needed. Note that in the config above, there is a space on both sides of the comma.

CORE-SWT1A>sh int trunk
Gi1/23   100, 101,111, ,201-202
Po1       100-102,104-107,109-110,
 Po2       100-101,104,109-110,112,
 Po3       100-101,104,109-110,112,

Port      Vlans allowed and active in management domain
Gi1/23  100,101,111,201-202

Even on my distribution switches I c the same ports assigned for vlan 100.

This is the info what i c on my core switches.Vlan 100 is already configured..
The 2 locations are connected to each other using a geomax line.A primary  traffic is going on between them.
Vlan 100 assigned for netbackup is backup traffic also they want to test on the  geomax link along with the primary traffic

OK, so things look OK at location A. How about the other location?

Did you check on the server switch with show trunk to make sure that the uplink to the distribution switch has vlan 100 on it?

You said the server switch is running Cat OS. So determine first which port is your uplink to the distribution switch. Use "show port" to see if that port is a trunk. Then type "show trunk" to see what vlans are on that trunk. If vlan 100 is not on it, add it with "set trunk x/x 100"

The idea is that every switch must have vlan 100, and both sides of every trunk must be configured to allow it. Once you have done this on every switch and port in the path between the 2 netbackup servers, it should work.

Can you explain what you mean by connect the ports? Any port that is set to vlan 100 should have connectivity to any other port on vlan 100, no matter which switch.

If you mean how to put ports in vlan 100:
In Cat OS
set vlan 100 x/x

In IOS
interface xx/x
 switchport
 switchport access vlan 100
